The development of human resources (SDM) constitutes an important pillar in operating the company. It is through capable SDM that foremost innovations will be born, which eventually will be beneficial for the continuity of the company.
In the insurance world of Indonesia, the development of SDM’s talent and expertise is very vital in view of the fairly unique characteristics of insurance business. Regulators even also deem it necessary to issue special directives for the development of human resources and the availability of expert personnel in every insurance company.
PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia (TPI) understands that the development of SDM is the spearhead and absolute requirement for survival and growth under dynamic market conditions. To this end, TPI has the commitment of further organizing activities related to the development of SDM and giving facilities as well as encouraging employees to achieve higher levels of education.
The focus of SDM upgrading conducted by TPI is on the development of soft skills and hard skills. Soft skills upgrading covers the competence of management and leadership, ESQ (emotional spiritual quotient), motivation, and problem solving. Meanwhile, hard skills upgrading more emphasizes the aspect of technical skills in insurance and non-insurance areas, as well knowledge sharing between employees.
In addition, as a form of SDM education investment, TPI always sends its employees to seminars and workshops organized in the country as well as abroad. For this purpose, TPI maintains a special budget with an increasing value from year to year parallel to the growing necessity for SDM development. In this case, TPI also strives to always abide by the rule on the minimum 5 percent allocation to the personnel cost of SDM development.
In order to optimize the function of SDM upgrading, TPI arranges cooperation with several educational institutions, domestic and overseas. At home, TPI cooperates with such educational bodies as the Indonesian Insurance Management Experts Association (AAMAI), the Indonesian Insurance Educational Institute (LPAI), and the Jakarta Insurance Institute (JII). In the meantime, overseas educational programs are arranged through cooperation with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in London, and the Malaysia Insurance Institute (MII) in Kuala Lumpur.
Until the end of 2011, TPI registered a total of 3340 employees, comprising 248 full-timers and 92 casual workers. The number of employees who already held insurance professional titles reached 58 or around 22 percent of the entire personnel.
